A Chinese university exchange delegation of the China-Russia journalism education college alliance set off from Beijing to Russia on September 22, 2018 at the invitation of Lomonosov State University (hereinafter referred to as "Moscow university") and Irkutsk State University.

The delegation consists of 6 deans and professors of journalism and communication school and 2 doctoral students, including Zhao Yonghua(Professor of school of journalism and communication, Renmin University, convener of the China-Russia journalism education college alliance), Liu Xiaoyan (Director of the editorial department of<Journal of International Communication>), Zhang Xiaoying(Executive director of school of international journalism and communication, Beijing Foreign Studies University), Zhou decang (Dean of the school of journalism and communication,Xizang Minzu University), Zhang Jinsheng (Deputy dean of school of journalism and communication, Jinan University) Qi Hui(Professor of school of Journalism, Chongqing University), Meng Linshan and Natalia (Doctoral students of school of journalism and communication, Renmin University)

The delegation participates in the "China-Russia journalism education in new media era" academic seminar

At 15 o 'clock on September 17, Moscow time, the exchange delegation attended "China-Russia news education in the new media era" academic seminar, which was held by the journalism department of Moscow university.

During the seminar, professor Yelena Valdanova (Head of the department of journalism, Moscow University) and professor Zhao Yonghua delivered their opening speeches respectively. Scholars from both China and Russia conducted positive discussions on the theme, presented and exchanged research results in related fields. Both sides believed that this fruitful academic discussion had taken a substantial step towards deepening the cooperation between two countries‘ university journalism education.

The Chinese delegation participated in the "Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Irkutsk National University and the international academic symposium of Irkutsk University"

On September 19(Irkutsk local time) the delegation came to the school of language and media of Irkutsk University to participate in the "interdisciplinary humanities research", the parallel session of the "Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Irkutsk National University and the international academic symposium of Irkutsk University".

The theme of this conference was "communication platform: language, literature and media". The participants included Chinese, Korean, German, Polish and Russian scholars. International scholars addressed the conference in their respective research areas and exchanged in-depth views with participants. As a renowned institution of higher learning with a long history in east Siberia and far eastern Pacific region, Irkutsk has been actively engaging in in-depth cooperation with institutions of higher learning in Europe and countries in the far eastern Pacific region. In particular, it hopes to actively carry out the education project cooperation with the school of journalism and communication of Chinese institutions of higher learning, and deepen the exchanges between the two countries at the level of education. At about 19:00 in the evening, all the participants attended the centennial celebration party of Irkutsk university. On September 20, Irkutsk university organized the scholars to participate in the cultural investigation.

Talks between Chinese delegation and Russian universities: deepening cooperation between Chinese and Russian universities

On September 21, the delegation came to the school of language and media of Irkutsk University. The delegation had talks with leaders of the school and the leaders of the South Federation University of Russia to discuss matters related to the preliminary development of the China-Russia international journalism education cooperation project under the cooperation framework of "China-Russia journalism education university alliance".

The heads of the relevant universities introduced the education in their respective universities,including the faculty condition, the special research direction and the current international exchange and cooperation projects. They also expressed their expectations for the future cooperation of education between the universities of the two countries.

On September 22, professor Zhao Yonghua and his doctoral students Meng Linshan and Natalia (Russia) came to school of language and media of Irkutsk University to have a talk with professor Marina Tashrykova, the dean of the school. The two sides further exchanged the intention of carrying out cooperation projects in both schools and the two universities under the framework of China-Russia journalism education university alliance.

In terms of the exchange and cooperation between teachers of the two universities, both sides agree to strengthen the academic exchanges between teachers of both sides through the mutual academic exchange seminars. In the future, both universities may try to encourage the international academic research cooperation between teachers of both sides, especially in the field of journalism and oriental studies.

Professor Zhao Yonghua said “In terms of students exchange and cooperation, I hope to provide students from both universities with oversea exchanges and summer student exchange activities. We can also organize students to carry out media research activities in the two countries or scholars from both sides to teach in the school etc. Hopefully through these activities we can expand the range of knowledge of students, cultivate students' international vision, strengthen exchanges and interactions between students, and enhance the friendship between the two sides.

Professor Marina Tashrekova said the school will develop an all-English teaching program on international news communication in the next two years, hoping to attract more Chinese students from Renmin university and other universities to study at the school.

On September 22, the Chinese delegation left Irkutsk and returned to Beijing.

The China-Russia journalism education university alliance was established on July 9, 2016. The alliance was commissioned by the ministry of education of China, the Renmin University of China as the initiator, and the major universities in both China and Russia actively participated in the establishment. The establishment of the China-Russia journalism education university alliance aims to promote the exchange and cooperation between China and Russia in the area of journalism education and enhance the China-Russia cultural exchanges in the new era.
